Barakah of the month of Shaban: Shaban is a month in which good deeds are raised and brought in light to Allah, the all knowing. The Qiblah or direction for salāh was changed from masjid-ul Aqsa (in Jerusalem) to the "Ka'bah" at Masjid-ul-Harām (in Makkah) two years after hijrah on the 15th of Shaban. Therefore, praying for forgiveness and blessings paves the path to Jannah (Heaven). People can also fast on 15th of Shaban but it is not obligatory to fast on Shab-e-barat. There is tradition/hadith documented in the Sunan of ibn Majah and the Musnad of Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal, in which an incident occurred on the 15th night of Shaban in the Prophet’s time while he was in Madinah. The Prophet’s wife, ‘Aishah narrates that she woke up in the middle of the night and found the Prophet away from home. She looked for him and found him at the graveyard and upon being questioned by her, he said that this the night that Allah forgives; hence the name Layla-tul Barā'ah (Night of Forgiveness).
